A few years ago I created a plugin called Env Bar. It’s a simple plugin to color your admin-bar and add a label next to your site name. It still works great but I’ve recently created a plugin I’ve been using for freelance that’s a little more robust called WordPress Environments. The new plugin offers the same functionality but cleaner code and global variables you can set in the wp-config.php.
Keep track of which environment you’re in and prevent cowboy coding in production.
